TRAVEL FROM ATHENS TO OLYMPIA BY BUS / TRAIN. (updated April 30, 2012).

We believe that when you visit Greece the four places that must be included in everybody's itinerary are:
The Acropolis of Athens, Olympia, Delphi and the "unique" site of the Meteora rocks.
CLICK and see the easy way to visit Olympia in 3.30 hrs and explore the ancient site, and
all the options to visit the monasteries at Meteora from 35.00 euro.

If you decide to visit Olympia by local bus and on your own, have in mind that:

1) Do not try and do the trip in a day. It is long, stressful, and you pay in total 60.00 euro from your hotel and back, and
2) The archaeological museum at Olympia is excellent, in contrary to the ancient site which is in a poor condition.
Everything, as it is with most of the ancient sites, is left to your imagination as in most of the structures only the foundations have survived.
Acropolis, Olympia and Delphi are three of the ancient sites that the services of a professional tour guide are worth the expense.
At the entrance of the museums or the sites ask for a local guide.

CLICK HERE and see an interesting video about Ancient Olympia, the archaeological museum and ancient site

and, click to see the "google map"of the museum and the ancient site area.

F.y.i. the entrance to the museum and the site at Olympia costs:
Adults 9.00 euros, E.U. students are free, other students and E.U. seniors pay 5.00 euro, while the under 19 are free.
